Story: Go to the Clearing is the second Story Quest of the game. It is preceded by Story: Come to My Lab, and is immediately followed by Story: Catch That Pichu. In this quest, the player goes to Shardil Clearing to find their rival.

After leaving Professor Spruce's lab, the player is free to catch Pokémon in Shardil Town and Shardil Clearing. However, should they attempt to go to Route 1, they will be stopped by an NPC who asks them where they are going. From here, the player can either go back to the clearing or proceed to Route 1 regardless. How this quest ends depends on where the player chooses to go, but both options ultimately lead to the start of the next quest.

Going to Shardil Clearing

Should the player choose to go to Shardil Clearing, they will find the rival standing near the pond in Shardil Clearing. Upon talking to them, they will ask the player to battle them. After the battle, a Pichu appears and approaches your rival, eventually getting close enough for them to pet it. The Pichu then uses the opportunity to steal their Pokémon and run off. Your rival will chase after them, ending this quest and starting the next one.

Going to Route 1

If the player chooses to proceed to Route 1 instead and goes far enough into the route, Pichu will run past them. Mary/Jordan will catch up to the player, and yell at them for not going to the clearing. Afterward, they'll info the player that the Pichu stole their Pokémon, and asks for their help. Not only will this begin the next quest, but doing this removes this quest from the player's Quest Log, making it unable to be completed. In addition, this will be counted as an instance of Mary/Jordan's negativity toward the player.
